a shelter for the curious

mumbai, india.

competition entry

nestled within layers of refuge, this pavilion offers a quiet solace. emerging as an organic extension of its host structure, it arrives with a sense of spontaneity—an architectural appendix that subtly invites exploration.

a delicate veil marks its threshold, offering a glimpse of the interior. as one draws closer, a reflective water body appears, its mirrored surface inviting calm. further in, curated works emerge—each inviting pause and attention. beyond them, an inner sanctum unfolds, cocooned in a soft, protective embrace.

suspended above, a floating inflated ceiling signifies both the lightness and impermanence of the shelter. along its edge, a narrow gap allows sunlight to filter through—a halo tracing the shelter’s outline through the day. beneath it, a breath of hope lingers, mirrored by the reflections of the sky, prompting quiet contemplation.

the experience of moving through the pavilion echoes our own relationship with climate change—a cycle of action and reflection, planning and pause. as we adapt, we question. as we move forward, we look inward.

like its visitors, the pavilion wrestles with its own presence—searching for a balance between seeking hope and being sustained by it.

here lies a haven, both burden and boon,

a vessel for intrepid souls, seekers of solace soon.

nestled within the sanctuary of its own confines,

a shelter within a shelter, yearns for its defines.

encounter the dance of shadow and light,

a balance between fore and hind sight.

in this symphony of darkness and gleam,

a lure for wanderers, a promising dream.
